Character’s Closet: Rachel White vs. Darcy Rhone

Although I don’t like drama in my own life, I love reading about it. I recently finished reading Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin, which is packed with every kind of drama you can imagine: high school, college, best friend, boyfriend, fiance, wedding and a bit of baby drama.

The two main female characters in the book are Rachel White, the narrator, and Darcy Rhone, her best friend. Rachel and Darcy are complete opposites in every aspect of their lives including style. Rachel is conservative and modest wearing mostly business attire for her job at a law firm. The only designer clothes she owns have been gifts from Darcy. Rachel starts paying a bit more attention to her clothing choices adding more color and floral prints when she starts having an affair with Darcy’s fiancé Dex.

On the other hand, Darcy has always demanded the best. From Marc Jacobs to Jimmy Choo, Louis Vuitton to Juicy Couture, Darcy is always covered in designer labels. She wears sexy dresses to show off her slim body and high heels to assure she is the tallest in the group. She tops off her looks with diamond earrings and anything else to make her the center of attention wherever she goes.

I’m now reading Something Blue, in which Darcy is the narrator. I’m in love with this series and highly recommend it. Emily Giffin is a very talented writer that has a way of getting in your heart and making you truly feel for these characters.

I’ve decided to add Character’s Closet to the featured posts list, so watch for more as I dive into more books, television series and movies.
