Shortly after I started my blog, I started dating Robert Swansen - a wonderful photographer. I remember I was extremely nervous when he first asked to take my photos. Until then, I had taken all of my own photos or had asked my mother to take them. But I soon figured out there are multiple benefits of having a photographer boyfriend.
1. He makes me feel confident and comfortable
I knew Robert’s photos would turn out great, so even though I was nervous and a bit uncomfortable, I let him take some. It didn’t take long for me to become completely comfortable with Robert taking my photos. He has a way of making everyone just relax and feel extremely comfortable in front of the camera; it’s a special gift that not everyone has. He also makes me feel confident and beautiful, which helps make the photos turn out great!
2. He’s always around and willing to take my photos
Not only is Robert an amazing photographer, he is an amazing boyfriend. He puts up with my constant nagging to take my photos for the blog and more nagging to get them up and edited. And he’s never once complained about it. I can pretty much take my photos whenever I want and get them back as soon as I need them.
I know it’s not the most interesting subject or photos, and a photographer must get bored taking (almost) the same photos all the time, but he still does it. He even helps me think of new poses and backgrounds to keep the photos interesting and fun.
3. He acts as a second set of eyes
Robert has also even helped me with my outfits on a number of occasions. He has a great sense of style, and it’s always nice to get a second opinion about a look before I leave the house. He also asks me for advice every now-and-then. Being a bit color-blind, his most famous question is “Does this match?”
Here are three quick photo tips from Robert:
• Keep the photo shoot informal
• Keep good conversation to help subject feel relaxed and comfortable
• Make sure you have an appropriate amount of headspace
