Day 14: Stick with what you know or try something new?

For day 14 of the 30-30 style challenge, I decided to wear something warm and comfy for a long night at The Advocate. I chose jeans, a comfy tank top, cardigan and a scarf, finishing the look with my comfy Adidas.

I bought these Adidas rather recently and I was so excited to finally have a “casual” pair of tennis shoes. Ever since I started cross-country in 7th-grade, I’ve only bought running shoes. Each year I’d buy a new color of the same style shoe: Asics Gel Nimbus. By the time I graduated high school, I had collected a green pair, purple pair, blue pair, an orange pair and two pink pairs of the same style shoe. What can I say – I loved them. They had good arch support, they were really comfy, and I liked the design. Whenever I’d buy a new pair for running, I’d retire my old ones to everyday shoes. It was the perfect way to recycle my shoes!

I bought my last pair of Asics Gel Nimbus running shoes in 2011.

But at some point, I got “sick” of them. I wanted to try something new. The first time I needed to buy running shoes in college, I was determined to find something new, something better, more comfy, more stylish. Unfortunately, no matter how many shoes I tried on, none ever lived up to my beloved Gel Nimbus. I did this for three years straight trying on shoe after shoe until finally settling with a new color of Nimbus.

When I started working at DSW last spring, I constantly had my eyes open for new cross trainers, light-athletic and running shoes. I found several pairs that I loved, but for some reason never tried them on – when I finally did, I hated them. They felt so awkward on my feet. But when I went back to DSW this fall, I finally found this pair of Adidas in clearance and tried them on. They were perfect!

Maybe it’s because I haven’t been doing as much running or maybe because I began having so much knee problems, but I’ve finally been able to move on from my Nimbus and buy a completely different style running shoe as well. I haven’t had a chance to really try them out on a long run yet, but I’m confident they will feel great on my precious little feet.

I bought my first non-Asics running shoe this year. It’s time for some Nikes!

Have you ever wanted to try something new but just couldn’t seem to give up your old way?
